Chief architect s’ya! Palace: Duterte consulted no one over VFA termination

President Rodrigo Duterte did not consult officials of his Cabinet on his decision to terminate the Philippines’ Visiting Forces Agreement with the United States, Malacañang said.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte only seeks out the advice of his Cabinet on matters he has doubts with.
“The President is the chief architect, hindi siya kailangang mag consult. Magaling na Presidente, abogado pa. Kung meron siyang doubts on certain areas, siguro that’s the time he consults,” according to Panelo.
“Di ba sinabi niya ‘pinag-aralan ko yan matagal na. Naguumpisa pa lang sila pinag-aaralan ko na yung gagawin ko’. Di ba sinabi niya yan sa kanyang speech? ‘When they started demanding the release of Senator (Leila) de Lima nagre-react na ako doon. Nagiisip na ako kung ano ang gagawin ko’,” he added.
On Friday, Panelo said that Duterte instructed Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to inform Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. to send the notice of termination to the US government.
This decision stemmed from the cancellation of the US visa of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa.
