Senator Risa Hontiveros is demanding an explanation from China over the reported smuggling of coronavirus vaccines into the country.
China must know the group behind the unlawful entry of its vaccines in the Philippines, according to Hontiveros.
“Illegal Chinese vaccines smuggled into the country? CHINA MUST EXPLAIN,” the senator tweeted.
“Sa lakas ba naman ng seguridad at surveillance nila, imposibleng hindi nila malalaman kung sino ang may pakana nito,” she said.
Hontiveros proposed an inquiry must be conducted by China on the matter.
“Beijing must lead its own inquiry and report to Phil agencies,” she said.
Reports circulated that some government officials and the President’s bodyguards have received the Chinese-made vaccines despite lack of regulatory consent. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet given any approval for the use of COVID-19 vaccine in the country. Two applications from vaccine makers remain pending before the FDA.
Ang mga hindi awtorisadong pagpapabakuna galing sa black market ay isa sa mga maaaring dahilan ng mababang tiwala ng publiko sa COVID-19 vaccine.— risa hontiveros (@risahontiveros) January 11, 2021
It is important that only authorized, safe, and registered vaccines will be used, and we must communicate this loudly and clearly.
