Former Majority Floor Leader and incumbent Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas denied allegations raised by Minority Floor Leader and Quezon Province Rep. Danilo Suarez that the previous House leadership pursue with the abolition of the Road Board after failing to secure financial favors from the agency.
In his statement to members of House media, Fariñas said he doesn’t see any logic in Suarez’s claims that Alvarez Speakership sought the abolition of Road Board after the agency refused to allocate “sizeable amount” for certain projects for its officials.
“I’ll answer your question with logical questions! Do you even believe that or find it credible and logical? If we threatened them, why did we abolish it? Do you think that they would rather have their office abolished than to release funds that is their mandate in the first place?” said Fariñas.
According to Suarez, some former he received complaints from some officials of the Road Baord after top honchos of the previous House leadership “asked sizeable amounts of money” from the agency which were supposed to be allocated in some favored legislative districts in the country
But Fariñas stressed that it was “inconsistent and clearly illogical” for Suarez to claim that the previous leadership under ousted Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez threatened the agency with abolition if they reject the funding requests since the dissolution of Road Board under House Bill 7346 happened on their watch.
