Chiz: PNoy makes a countdown
President Benigno Aquino III has been counting the days left in his term, according to Senator Chiz Escudero.
Escudero told reporters that this contradicts Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda’s statement that Aquino would yield to pressures for him to seek a term extension as he listens to the voice of the people.
“That’s not allowed by the Constitution. It should not even be discussed. I don’t think they should even be toying with that idea in their minds. On the part of President Aquino, to be fair, I don’t even think he wants that. In fact, huli ko siyang naka-usap, nagka-countdown siya sa kanyang termino at bilang niya ang araw nya,” Escudero said.
The senator also described Lacierda’s statement as “ clearly unfortunate” because it did not clarify the President’s position on the matter.
“Hindi sana ganoon kalabo ang naging kasagutan niya kaugnay sa tanong,” he said.
“Kailan ba siya naging maingat? I think it’s a usual problem ng spokespersons. They have to clarify and distinguish their own opinion from that of the President. Because usually they forget they are spokespersons only, that they are not sharing or enunciating their own opinion but whenever they open their mouth, it’s as if the President said it,” Escudero went on.
“I think ang nag-create ng confusion should clarify,” he said, referring to Lacierda
