Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco has dismissed as a “cheap shot” the allegation that he’s behind a coup attempt against House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
In a six-minute video posted Friday (October 2), Velasco said it “defies reason” why he would want to oust Cayetano because he would become the Speaker on October 14 under the term sharing agreement they forged with President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Coup plot? It’s a cheap shot. Uulitin ko ang minsang binitawan kong salita sa Pangulo at sa taumbayan: ako po ay isang tunay na lalaki na may palabra de honor,” he said.
Cayetano and his allies have accused Velasco of trying to stage a coup so he can become the Speaker.
The two politikos met with President Duterte on September 29 to discuss the term sharing agreement. It was agreed there that Cayetano would step down on October 14 and that the passage of the 2021 national budget will not be delayed.
