Court junks libel raps by ex-DILG exec vs. Maria Ressa
The libel complaint filed by former Interior Secretary John Castriciones has against news outfit Rappler has been junked by the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutors has issued a resolution which declared that no probable cause has been found in the complaint of Castriciones concerning Rappler articles published in 2017 which described him being in a “floating status” due to allegations of corruption.
The complaint named as respondents Rappler executive Maria Ressa and reporter Rambo Talabong who wrote the articles.
In the resolution, prosecutors pointed out the assertions “that complainant is on floating status is truthful.”
“In order that such credible imputation to a public official may be actionable, it must either be a false allegation of fact or a comment based on a false supposition,” the resolution ruled.
