Creeping dictatorship: Kiko says Sereno impeachment meant to coerce SC obedience
Senator Kiko Pangilinan on Thursday said the impeachment complaint filed against Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, it appears, was not simply directed at her.
“It can very well be directed at the entire High Court: submit or else,” said Pangilinan, a member of the Senate minority bloc.
At least 25 members of the House of Representatives have endorsed the impeachment complaint filed against Sereno for alleged violation of public trust.
The senator said, “Unless we act and defend our democracy and freedoms, we are well on our way to dictatorship.”
Pangilinan, also president of the Liberal Party, has urged the people to join protest rallies on Sept. 21, Martial Law commemoration, to voice out their concern.
“As we remember the 45th anniversary of the declaration of Martial rule come September 21, join the protest rallies and stand up in defense of democracy!” he said.
