Crowd cheers as Duterte recalls lining up dead criminals in Davao under Arroyo: Imagine what I can do now!

President Rodrigo Duterte was probably playing to the crowd but his deadpan quip on killings under his watch was nonetheless menacing.

In a speech in Clark, Pampanga Wedensday, Duterte recalled his time as adviser of then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who was seated on stage during the event.

On one occasion, Duterte said he received a call from Arroyo who was anxious about a report that six cadavers were lined up on a highway in Davao City which has caused a major traffic in the area.

“Magtawag ‘yan sa gabi, tapos, ‘Ma’am’. ‘O, Rody, ito isang problema’. ‘Akong bahala niyan, ma’am’. Tapos tawag siya, ‘Rody, bakit maraming patay diyan?’,” said Duterte

“Alam mo ginawa ko? Anim. Diyan, sa highway. Nilinya ko. pinalangawan ko. So ang traffic nagbuntot hanggang Cotabato. Alam ko itong siguro, Dureza eh. Dureza ‘yung piitero eh. Tapos tumawag si ma’am, ‘Rody, ano ba namang ginagawa mo diyan?’ “Bakit, ma’am?’ ‘Bakit anong — traffic pati ‘yung — bakit ‘yung patay nilinya mo diyan sa daan?’ ‘Ah, maniwala ka diyan, ma’am. Hayaan mo’,” said Duterte.

The six were apparently among the hundreds of drug suspects and other criminals executed gangland style allegedly by the Davao Death Squad during his long term as mayor of Davao City.

Arroyo had tapped Duterte as peace and order adviser for his gruesome but effective method in maintaining peace and order in his city.

Duterte ended his brief tale with a terrifying punchline.

“Now, ‘yun… Noon, kay ma’am ‘yun, kay Presidente Arroyo. Now, isipin mo na ako na ngayon,” said Duterte who drew loud cheers and applause from the local executives in the audience.
