Da King sa kalsada! Lapid wants QC’s Del Monte Ave named after FPJ

Senator Lito Lapid has filed a bill seeking to rename Del Monte Avenue in Quezon City after the late action star Fernando Poe Jr.

Lapid, an actor himself, said he filed Senate Bill 1822 because Poe “inspired a generation of television and film culture.”

“While his films depicted him a hero that won the hearts of the masses, what made him more popular was the fact that he lived up to be a true hero with his charitable causes,” he said in the bill’s explanatory note.

“Thus, it is only fitting that a National Artist who championed the marginalized and oppressed with such dedication, branding, style, and iconic craft be fully recognized,” the lawmaker added.

Lapid said “much” of Poe’s legacy lives on in his production outfit along Del Monte Avenue.

Poe died in 2004, just months after he lost the presidential race to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He was posthumously declared a National Artist on May 23, 2006.
