Daanin sa gulang! Ping exposes PhilHealth mafia’s strategies to evade questioning

The so-called mafia of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) is resorting to underhanded tactics in evading questions from senators looking into corruption at the agency.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Wednesday the PhilHealth officials would either resort to long confusing answers, or to emotional blackmail.

“If you notice, ganoon talaga style nila. Hiluhin nila ang mga tao para magsawa na sa katatanong sa kanila,” he told reporters.

But in an earlier interview, he said they had been warned of this and developed countermeasures such as cutting off long answers.

“Yan isang strategy nila, pagurin kami, abutin kami ng gabi, pag-adjourn wala kaming makuha. E alam namin yan kaya kung napansin mo ang ibang senador din kina-cut pag masyadong mahaba ang sagot kasi kasama sa usapan nila yan,” he said.

Lacson also countered claims by PhilHealth president Ricardo Morales claiming the Senate refused to hear his explanations.

“Kami pa ngayon may kasalanan. Samantalang hinihilo nga nila kami sa explanation nila kaya minsan kina-cut namin kasi paikot-ikot. Every time maraming senador magtatanong, bakit nyo ginamit ang iRM para sa COVID sa non-COVID? Sagot nila, mandate ng PhilHealth tugunan ang pangangailangan ng dialysis patient, maternity care. Ang layo ng sagot,” he said.

Lacson also noted PhilHealth officials’ “emotive approach” with the media, insinuating senators are insensitive to the plight of dialysis patients.

“As Sen Pia Cayetano said yesterday, hindi kami nagdi-disagree doon. Tutulungan kung tutulungan pero huwag gamitin ang IRM sa pag-release ng pondo because there are other programs ng PhilHealth sa ibang kaso na labas sa COVID. Every time yan tatanungin namin, yan sasagot ni del Rosario, under the law, they are citing PhilHealth law citing all their mandates. Pero maliwanag naman naka-focus lang tayo sa usapan sa IRM,” he said.

In a separate interview on DZMM, Lacson said the only way to counter this is to not give in to the PhilHealth mafia’s tactics.

“Kaya ang mensahe, huwag tayo sumuko huwag tayo magsawa huwag tayo mapagod, no matter what,” he said.
