Drug chemists who cook up methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) in laboratories are more deserving than street pushers of shooting it out with police.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson said this Friday, following the discovery of shabu laboratories in Batangas and in Malabon City this week.

“Of shabu laboratory chemists and street pushers: sana yung una ang nakikipagbarilan sa mga pulis,” Lacson said in a tweet (

Compared to street pushers, shabu chemists have the potential to cause much greater destruction of lives, especially among the youth.

Authorities on Friday dismantled a suspected shabu/ecstacy warehouse in Malabon, and arrested two suspects.

Seized were suspected chemicals used in making shabu and ecstacy, the PDEA said in a tweet (

On the other hand, the Batangas lab was capable of producing 25 kilos of shabu (worth P125 million) a day, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (

Arrested in the raid on the Batangas shabu lab were four Chinese chemists and four Filipinos, PDEA said.

Earlier reports said the anti-drug operation stemmed from the sharing of intelligence information on illegal drug activities between the Philippines and China.

Lacson, who headed the Philippine National Police from 1999 to 2001, had adopted a two-pronged strategy against drugs – reducing demand and constricting supply.
