Daming smuggled! P40-M worth of PPEs seized by DTI
Law enforcement has seized around P40 million worth of personal protection equipment (PPEs) during operations, Justice Undersecretary Mark Perete said on Saturday (May 30).
“Last week, DTI said na merong around P40 million worth of PPEs yung confiscated nationwide,” he said during the daily Laging Handa briefing.
Meanwhile, Perete assured that the DOJ has prioritized in conducting forfeiture proceedings of the products confiscated during operations against profiteers and hoarders.
“So inuuna ng ating National Prosecution Service yung forfeiture ng goods na ito para mai-forward sa ating mga hospitals,” he said.
Perete said a circular has been issued which directed prosecutors to dispose the items for distribution even if the cases against those involved in hoarding and profiteering have not yet concluded.
He assured the products will undergo inspection to determine their safety before being distributed.
“Isa sa mga protocols na nakalagay roon sa circular kailangan i-inspect ng FDA yuong mga PPEs and mga medical equipment bago ito i-donate or ipamahagi sa ating mga hospitals,” he added.
