Daming time ng netizens! NBI: Fake news posts doubled during lockdown
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Saturday (May 30) that number of fake news have doubled during this pandemic compared to the same period last year.
“Dumoble rin po ngayong panahon ng pandemic the continuous proliferation, ito po yung pagpapakalat ng maling balita kaugnayan po ng COVID pandemic,” said NBI Cyber Crime Division (NBI-CCD) Executive Officer Michelle Valdez during the Laging Handa briefing.
She lamented the proliferation of fake news have caused “chaos or confusion among the public.”
Meanwhile, Valdez urged the public to report to the NBI fake news
“Bukas po ang aming division sa lahat po ng reports and other complaints ng cybercrime,” she assured.
Aside from this, Valdez revealed that during the pandemic the number of cyber fraud has also doubled compared to the same period last year.
“Dumoble po yung bilang ng ating cyber, computer-related fraud cases,” she said.
Valdez noted these crimes including phishing activities, shopping scams, and donation scams.
