Dapat pangmatagalan! Duterte’s marching order to Con Com: Make draft Constitution ‘good for 7 generations’
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered to constitutional commission (Con Com) to come up with a draft Constitution good for future generations instead of placing emphasis on what he wants.
In a speech during the oathtaking ceremony of new officials Tuesday (February 13), Duterte said he does not want to call the shots with regard to the Con Com’s actions.
“Ako, sir, ayaw kong magsalita. As much as possible, I want to give you the enough leeway na hindi, ‘Ah baka gusto ni Presidente…’ I do not want you to spill it there. I have no — except that if we can produce a working document that will ensure something like for good for even just about 7 generations,” he said in Malacañang.
Duterte said he is leaving it up to the Con Com to suggest the changes that may be incorporated in the new Constitution that Congress wants to draft as a constituent assembly.
“I’ll leave it up to you kung ano ‘yung gusto ninyo para sa bayan natin. And I know that you would not do anything harmful to the country,” he said.
Present during the oath-taking ceremony were members of the Con Com led by former Chief Justice Reynato Puno.
