Malacañang denied on Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte has oligarchs and cronies of his own.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque came to the defense of Dennis Uy, a Davao-based businessman identified as a Duterte crony, saying that he built his fortune in mining.
The secretary was reacting to criticisms that while Duterte boasted of dismantling the country’s oligarchy without declaring martial law, the chief executive has own cronies.
Roque, however, insisted otherwise.
“Dennis Uy built their fortune because of mining in gold in Diwalwal. No one can doubt na gold producing ang Diwalwal. So, wag nating isipin na ang kayamanan niya was because of President Duterte. Dati na siyang mayaman,” he also said.
