Senator Leila de Lima hit back at President Duterte over his “sexist” comment that the presidency is not for women.
In a latest online post, De Lima turned the tables on the President, saying the Dutertes are actually not fit for the presidency.
President Duterte earlier said his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio is not running for president in next year’s elections, contradicting rumors about her supposed political ambition. He told his daughter not to run to spare her from the hardship he went through while serving as the country’s leader.
Duterte then made a controversial quip, saying that women are not fit to become the country’s president. He said the emotional setup of a woman and man is totally different.
De Lima wondered why Duterte made another sexist comment against women. She said Duterte does not even measure up to women leaders like Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand.
“Kulang ba sa tulog iyang si Duterte o nilamok sa kulambo? Sa tuwing bitin kasi siya sa tulog, ang mga babae ang pinagdidiskitahan. Ni hindi man siya makaabot sa kalingkingan ng mga nagawa nila Arden, Tsai Ing-wen at Merkel,” De LIma tweeted.
She then commented that no member of the Duterte family is qualified to be the country’s leader.
“Kamo ang sabihin niya silang mga Duterte ang hindi bagay sa pagkapresidente, babae man o lalake. Period!” she said.
The Philippines already had two women presidents — the late President Corazon Aquino and President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Aquino served from 1986 to 1992 while Arroyo took office from 2001 to 2010. Both leaders were catapulted into office following EDSA popular uprisings.
