Anakalusugan party list. Rep. Mike Defensor is taking up the cudgels for the doctors who have issued prescriptions for ivermectin.
Defensor defended that these doctors do not the deserve the alleged harassment by health authorities for merely helping people combat the coronavirus illness.
He was reacting to the Department of Health’s plan to ask the Professional Regulation Commission to probe the doctors who allegedly issued invalid prescriptions for ivermectin in Quezon City.
Defensor, alongside SAGIP Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, recently led the distribution of ivermectin to residents of Quezon City. The ivermectin pantry took place despite earlier warnings from the DOH against the use of the anti-parasitic drug to prevent coronavirus due to lack of data.
Defensor is dismayed with the DOH move against the doctors. He said these medical professionals have put their names at stake just to assist people.
“Our doctors do not deserve this! They have put their names and practice on the line for the love of our people and nation,” he said in a Facebook post.
“They didn’t have to do that. They could have remained quiet and towed the line. They spoke and they acted knowing that silence will lead to the death of our people,” he said.
The former environment secretary appealed to the public to rally behind the doctors.
“It is seldom that I ask for help and support for my advocacies and beliefs,” he saiid.
Defensor became protective of the doctors, adding critics could have attacked him, not these brave and selfless medical workers.
“As a public official , I have accepted the fact that I am “ fair play” and people may attack me and I just I have to roll with the punches and hope that my arguments will come to light,” he said.
