Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor on Tuesday took a hands-off approach toward suggestions that the speakership deal struck between incumbent Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco could be scuttled.
“Iyong agreement na iyon… it was an agreement amongst them. But para sa akin – for the country, for the President, I think we just continue with the work that we have to accomplish,” he said in a press conference.
He was reacting to Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr.’s earlier suggestion that the speakership deal between Cayetano and Velasco might no longer push through, considering the Speaker’s high trust and approval rating.
Cayetano assumed the speakership in July after negotiating a deal with Velasco in which he would serve for the first 15 months as Speaker, and his rival would take over in the remaining 21 months.
Speaking at the same press conference, ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap said it was all up to the members.
“Sa akin naman kse nasa mga members iyan. Kung iyong iba kung gusto nila ng election, kung gusto nilang pumuli ng Speaker, nasa sa kanila po iyan,” he said.
“Basta kung ako po, e isang boto lang naman ako e. So kung ano iyong mapagkasunduan ng majority susunod naman po tayo duon,” Yap said.
