Cebu Rep. Raul del Mar has urged the camp of Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco not to seek the ouster of House Speaker Alan Peter amid tensions over the distribution of the national budget and the highly-contested discussion over the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.
Del Mar, a stalwart of the opposition Liberal Party, made the remarks as Cayetano on Monday revealed that some congressmen which he refused to disclose their names are using issues on this year’s General Appropriations Act and the franchise renewal of the embattled media conglomerate to oust him from the House leadership.
Even though Cayetano didn’t mentioned names of lawmakers who are plotting his leadership, Velasco’s henchmen namely Deputy Speakers Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales of Pampanga and Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur were vocally active in support for the consolidated measure that seeks to grant ABS-CBN a fresh 25-year franchise.
Another supporter of Velasco namely Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza said the House of Representatives “should have a new Speaker” if Cayetano and his henchmen continue its alleged inaction over the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya network.
Del Mar said “there are no moves moves to hasten the assumption of Velasco” he is confident confidante of the Marinduque solon “will not ask his supporters” over any ouster plot against the present leadership considering the term-sharing agreement forged by President Rodrigo Duterte between his two formidable allies.
“There is no coup to unseat the Speaker. Everybody knows there is an agreement and it’s being respected,” said del Mar.
