Senator Sonny Angara has welcomed the public apology given by an environment official for his “bayaran ka” comment at the University of the Philippines (UP) marine science experts.
Angara said he felt a firestorm was brewing in UP following the controversial remark of Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda.
“Good move. I sensed a firestorm was quietly brewing in the UP community,” he tweeted.
Antiporda has apologized to the UP Marine Science Institute (MSI) experts after saying they had no right to criticize the Manila Bay beautification project. He earlier branded them “bayaran” for allegedly earning from consultation fees.
Antiporda, appearing at ANC’s Headstart with Karen Davila, realized his mistake, saying he was just carried away by his emotion.
Dr. Laura David, director of the UP MSI, reportedly accepted the apology, saying it was just miscommunication.
