The Public Attorneys Office (PAO) has so far helped release 31,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) during the pandemic, said PAO Chief Persida Acosta.

“Nang magkaroon ng nationwide lockdown o quanratine status dahil sa global pandemic ng coronavirus mula March 16, 2020 hanggang August 31, 2020, ang buong legal workforce ng PAO ay nakapaglingkod sa humigit kumulang 31,000 persons deprived of liberty o PDLs para matagumpay nilang paglaya sa pagkakakulong,” she cited during her online address.

Acosta made disclosure amid continued concerns over spread of the COVID-19 virus among PDLs due to overcrowding.

The PAO chief also cited the PAO also served 2.5 million persons from January to August this year.

However, this number is small compared to the around 13 million served by the PAO in 2019.
