The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has signed the notice of termination of the country’s visiting forces agreement with the United States (US), an official confirmed Tuesday.

In a Twitter post, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Dodo Dulay confirmed that Secretary Teddyboy Locsin signed the notice of VFA termination on Tuesday.

“On the order of the president through Executive Secretary (Salvador) Medialdea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Locsin signed today the notice of termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement, which will be delivered to the US Embassy in Manila forthwith,” said Dulay.

On Friday night, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Duterte instructed Medialdea to order the DFA to send the government’s notice to the US government.

“[President Rodrigo Duterte] is instructing [Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea] to tell [the Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr.] to send the notice of termination to the US government,” said Panelo in a text message.
