‘Di aabutin ng siyam-siyam! Ramon Ang vows speedy release of results as San Miguel opens COVID-19 testing lab
Filipinos don’t have to wait for days or weeks to find out if they have COVID-19 with the entry of San Miguel Corp.’s (SMC) own testing laboratory.
SMC president Ramon Ang said Friday (July 3) that the testing laboratory can release results of an RT-PCR test in as fast as three hours. He said it was a far cry from the current setup, where patients had to wait for days to find out if they’re positive for COVID-19.
“Alam niyo ang importante, dati pag nagpatest ka ng PCR testing, para makuha mo yung resulta mo after two weeks or three… baka patay ka na eh bago mo pa makuha yung resulta, diba? Ngayon po itong laboratory na ito, ang pangako ng supplier, three hours lang daw makukuha mo na yung result. Can you imagine? Game-changer ito,” Ang said at the inauguration of the laboratory along EDSA.
SMC’s president said the testing laboratory has the capacity to process 4,000 tests daily, though this could be upgraded to 12,000.
“Hindi natin agad ginawang 12,000 testing a day, 4,000 lamang sa tingin natin mukhang na-arrest na ng gobyerno yung problema. Pero kung magkaron pa tayo ng further problem, this place ready na agad for expansion,” Ang explained.
He said SMC’s testing booths could be set up in airports and seaports so travelers could immediately be tested for COVID-19 and quarantined if they have the virus.
As of June 25, SMC’s total efforts to help in the COVID-19 crisis reached P13.1 billion.
