Senator Loren Legarda apparently worried if she would be an effective Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) secretary, which is why she is opting to run as Antique representative next year, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said.
Sotto bared over radio dwIZ Saturday (October 6) that Legarda was advised against taking the DSWD post and mulled to run as a party-list representative, before finally deciding that she would gun for a congressional seat as the representative of her hometown Antique.
“Nung una [gusto niyang mag-party-list,] pero parang ngayon, desidido na siya [na tumakbo sa Antique] at saka ‘yung sa DSWD, baka raw ‘di siya maging effective as Secretary of DSWD,” said Sotto, senior council leader of the Nationalis People’s Coalition. Legarda also hails from the NPC.
Sotto said Legarda’s Luntiang Pilipinas would have fielded her as a party-list representative, but would now field a different nominee.
Rumors swirled that Legarda would be appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as DSWD secretary when she steps down after two consecutive six-year terms as senator next year.
However, Legarda has announced that she would run as Antique representative instead.
