‘Di ito biro: Bersamin considers judges’ inclusion in drugs watch list as ‘serious’ matter
Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin on Monday (April 8) said reports concerning the involvement of 13 judges in the illegal drugs trade are very serious allegations that cannot be ignored.
“It’s not a small thing for anyone to accuse sitting judges of violations as serious as drug-related ones,” Bersamin said.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Aaron Aquino had earlier revealed its drug watch list also include 13 judges.
Because of this, Bersamin said the Supreme Court (SC) has decided to look into the matter and appointed SC Justice Diosdado Peralta to head the probe.
“So it was only natural for the Supreme Court to assign one of its most senior members to look into these allegations and if there are any bases for these allegations then we would proceed against the judges concerned,” Bersamin said.
“We will give him all the time and we will not rush things because these are serious allegations that we cannot just ignore,” he assured.
