Hollywood star Rami Malek isn’t keen on donning Senator Manny Pacquiao’s boxing gloves after portraying Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen.
Malek told Rappler contributor Ruben Nepales that he “definitely” won’t be playing Pacquiao in a biographical movie that’s reportedly in the works.
“I can absolutely deny that. That’s fascinating. No, I will definitely not be playing Manny Pacquiao,” Malek said in an article posted by Rappler on Wednesday (January 13).
The actor, who has Egyptian roots, said having a Filipino actor portray Pacquiao “would be the right choice.”
“If we’ve learned anything, by certain stretches, an actor can do it. But for someone of Filipino origin, it would be nice to see that person being played by somebody from that country,” he said.
Malek said he only heard from Nepales about rumors that he will be playing Pacquiao in a movie.
He is set to appear as the villain Safin in the upcoming James Bond movie, “No Time To Die.”
