A Zamboanga Regional Trial Court judge accused as the mastermind in the murder of another judge in the province surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation, on Saturday morning after more than a year of hiding.
Judge Oscar Tomarong allegedly ordered the killing of Judge Reymar Lacaya of the Regional Trial Court of Zamboanga in 2019 over drug related cases.
Tomarong who also a former agent of the NBI before he joined the judiciary peacefuly yielded to his former colleagues in Dipolog City who were closing in on him, NBI Director Eric Distor said.
Last year, NBI arrested Juliver Cabating, driver of Tomarong who supposedly acted as the conduit between the hired gunmen and Tomarong for the killing of Lacaya.
The gunmen who were only identified as Jerry and Ramil remained at large.
Among the evidence gathered by the NBI against Cabating, was a CCTV footage that showed him talking to the hired killers before the shooting of Calaya.
On previous statements Justice Midas Marquez folowing the death of Lacaya, stated that the victim reversed the decisions of Tamorong in drug related cases ordering the release of suspected drug lords.
