Another riot erupted inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on Monday (Nov. 9) just after a month a fight broke out there, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed.
“Usec. Gerald Q. Bantag is on top of the situation and is closely monitoring and giving directions to the Operating Team,” the BuCor said in a statement.
“Investigation will be conducted to identify the cause of the incident. Disciplinary actions will be imposed to those who are responsible,” it assured.
The BuCor said that the riot took erupted at around 8:39 a.m. at the Maximum Security Compound.
“Immediate response from BuCor, PNP-SWAT, PNP-SAF and BFP personnel deployed. BuCor personnel who were at the offices during the incident were ordered to evacuate the National Headquarters immediately to ensure that no injuries will be inflicted to them,” it reported.
“Penal colonies were also advised to be on red-alert in order to ensure peace and order within their Area of Responsibility,” it added.
Last Oct. 9, a riot took place inside Quadrant 4 of the Maximum Security Compound that was caused by the fight between Sigue Sigue Sputnik (SSS) and Sigue Sigue Commando (SSC) gangs.
The incident resulted in nine inmates getting killed and seven others getting hurt.
The BuCor learned that the Oct. 9 riot got ignited “because of perceived disrespect to an LGBTQ member of one group.”
