Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday (Jan. 24) said the Department of Justice (DOJ) has been directed to look into steps for the termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) with the United States.

The move was made as the President Rodrigo Duterte expressed annoyance at the continued interference of the US on the country’s affairs including calls for the release of Sen. Leila De Lima.

“All I can say is that the DOJ has been tasked to study the proper procedure to terminate the VFA,” Guevarra said.

“We are doing it now,” he added.

Malacanang Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President has had enough after the US canceled the 10-year visa of Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

Panelo said the President is also turning down the invitation to participate inthe US-ASEAN Summit in Las Vegas.
