‘Di nasikmura! Philhealth chief’s aide quits over corruption- source

The head executive assistant of Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) president and chief executive officer Ricardo Morales resigned ahead of the controversial departure of an anti-fraud officer because he also can’t stomach the corruption within the agency, Politiko has learned.
A source privy to the matter told Politiko that retired colonel Etrobal Laborte resigned on July 1 because he can no longer turn a blind eye to the rampant corruption within Philhealth.
Laborte had cited his intent to pursue further studies as the reason for his resignation.
“He resigned because what he was witnessing in the agency was against his values,’’ the source said.
Politiko’s source said Philhealth abruptly disconnected Laborte’s mobile phone line even though he had until July 31 to return office-issued gadgets.
The timing coincided with the controversial resignation of Philhealth anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes Keith.
“On the night that the resignation of Keith went viral on social media, the cellphone issued by Philhealth which he was still using for official dealings was abruptly disconnected without warning him,’’ the source shared.
“They were scared he might talk or unwittingly give details derogatory to Philhealth,’’ the source added.
Politiko’s source said Laborte has documents to prove corruption within Philhealth, but is hesitant to come out in the open.
