Those drawing similarities between the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte and the regime of former President Ferdinand Marcos are comparing apples with oranges, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said.
“‘Pag binabalik natin ‘yung Marcos era eh ibang panahon na ‘yun eh, hindi naman na… Hindi naman apples to apples ‘to eh, ‘di ba?” Andanar said in a radio interview on Saturday (December 2).
Andanar’s remarks came after Duterte likened himself to Marcos in his love for the military.
Andanar also said Duterte’s martial law in Mindanao has been “implemented properly” without reported incidents of human rights violations.
“Martial law, really, is for the people para bantayan ang bayan, bantayan ang mga kababayan natin so that they can live peacefully, harmoniously, ‘yun naman talaga eh,” he said.
Duterte has previously praised Marcos as the brightest Philippine president and hailed the former dictator’s martial rule.
