‘Di papalag! Trillanes to surrender once warrant is issued
By Xave Gregorio
Opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes would surrender once the warrant of arrest against him is issued.
This was what Trillanes told senators, according to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
“He intimated to us that he will face the warrant and accusation,” Sotto told Politiko in a text message Wednesday (September 5).
Trillanes has said that he would not resist arrest once the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148 grants the Department of Justice’s motion for an alias arrest warrant against him.
The senator, one of Duterte’s staunchest critics, has remained in his office since yesterday to evade arrest, as senators stand united against arresting lawmakers inside the Senate’s premises.
The police and members of the military have been in the Senate compound since yesterday, after President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation No. 572, which declared void from the start the amnesty granted to Trillanes by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Duterte also ordered the arrest of Trillanes – a move decried by opposition lawmakers as political persecution.
