Senator Richard Gordon wants the Department of Justice (DOJ) to charge former President Benigno Aquino III in connection with the controversy caused by the government’s use of the Dengvaxia vaccine.

In a series of tweets posted Saturday (March 2) Gordon said he was “disappointed” about the outcome of the DOJ’s investigation into the Dengvaxia controversy because of Aquino and his Budget Secretary, Butch Abad, were not among those whom the agency indicted over the Dengvaxia mess.

“I’m also a disappointed dahil kailangan silipin mabuti ang involvement ni dating Presidente Aquino at budget secretary Abad dahil sila ang nagpabilis ng pagbili ng Dengvaxia vaccines. Dapat masampahan agad sila ng kaso because justice delayed is justice denied,” the senator said.

Gordon said he believes the DOJ should charge Aquino and other officials involved in the vaccine’s procurement with “illegal procurement and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.”

“Sa reckless imprudence resulting to homicide ay wala pang sapat na ebidensya na nagpapatunay na Dengvaxia ang cause of death ng mga namatay na bata,” he said.

The DOJ on Friday (March 1) indicted former Health Secretary Janette Garin and four others of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide over deaths allegedly caused by Dengvaxia, which was used by the Department of Health for its mass immunization program against dengue under the Aquino administration.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, however, was not among those indicted over the controversy due to lack of evidence, the DOJ said.
