Dikit ang laban! Tolentino lands in Poe-led ‘Magic 12’ ahead of campaign season- survey

The race to become one of the country’s new senators is heating up ahead of the campaign season, with five politikos locked in a tough fight to be part of the so-called “Magic 12” list of winning candidates.

Results of The Issue and Advocacy Center’s (Center) latest “Pulso ng Pilipinas” survey showed Senator Grace Poe as the frontrunner in the senatorial race, with 62 percent of respondents saying they will vote for her.

Rounding the top five are Senators Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara and Nancy Binay, as well as Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano.

Other candidates with a high probability of winning the senatorial race are former Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, who is tied with former senator Lito Lapid for the sixth and seventh place. Former senator Jinggoy Estrada is at eighth place, with 39 percent of respondents saying they will vote for him.

Former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino leapfrogged beyond other well-known contenders to land in the ninth to 10th place, tied with former senator Mar Roxas.

Re-electionist senators Koko Pimentel and JV Ejercito complete the “Magic 12” in the 11th and 12th places, respectively.

Close on the heels of the two incumben senators are former Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa in 13th place, former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla in 14th place, and Senator Bam Aquino and Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, who are tied for the 15th to 16th place.

In 17th place is former senator Sergio Osmeña III, followed by Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu, former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares and former senator Juan Ponce Enrile.

The “Pulso ng Bayan” survey was conducted from January 25 to 31 nationwide with 1,200 respondents.

The campaign period for the senatorial race will start on Tuesday (February 12).
