Dilawan no more? Roxas eyes Senate return but as independent – source

Former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is reportedly “seriously considering” to make a Senate comeback in the 2019 elections as an independent candidate.
Reliable sources told Politiko that Roxas will most likely make a last-minute filing of his certificate of candidacy on August 17 at the main office of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Intramuros, Manila.
But unlike his previous electoral bids, Roxas might reportedly not run under the political entity founded by his family, the Liberal Party (LP), the sources said.
The LP leadership last week announced that they have reserved a slot for Roxas in its Senate slate. But sources said Roxas seemed to prefer to run as independent candidate for strategic purposes.
Roxas ran as LP’s standard bearer back in the 2016 presidential but lost to then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
