Dinaga si Dick? Gordon cancels hearing on Duque, Philhealth fraud
Did Senator Richard Gordon get cold feet over the prospect of investigating Health Secretary Francisco Duque III?
Politiko learned that Gordon has cancelled the Senate Blue Ribbon committee’s investigation into the alleged anomalies involving Duque and controversies in the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).
The hearing, scheduled Thursday (August 8), was supposed to be held jointly with the Senate Committee on Health and Demography headed by Senator Bong Go.
According to an advisory seen by Politiko, the hearing is “cancelled until further notice.”
The Senate was supposed to investigate Duque for alleged conflict of interest after Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed that the Health Secretary’s family snapped contracts with the Department of Health (DOH) and PhilHealth.
These include supplying drugs to DOH and leasing a building in Pangasinan to PhilHealth.
Lacson also tagged Duque to PhilHealth’s alleged overpayment to certain private hospitals.
Malacañang has said that President Rodrigo Duterte still trusts Duque despite the allegations he is facing.
