The camp of Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano will reportedly conduct a last-minute emergency meeting with key government officials and selected congressmen to solidify his hold in the House leadership.

The said meeting will take place at Luna Café—Bonifacio Global City Branch in Taguig City starting 4 p.m. of Sunday.

Some congressmen who requested anonymity believed that the emergency meeting called by the Cayetano Camp somehow was a form of loyalty check.

Cayetano apparently is getting jitters on reports that several solons are seriously taking the recent pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte that he won’t be offended if they decide not to vote for Cayetano at the formal opening of session this coming Monday, July 22.

Aside from congressmen, some members of the Duterte cabinet’s economic cluster were also expected to attend the meeting.

In an interview with radio DZBB on Sunday, Albay Rep. Joey Salceda said many of his colleagues in the presumptive House Majority believed that Malacañang was serious with its recent statement that “the ball remains in the hands of congressmen” on who will they pick the next leader of the 304-man House of Representatives.

“Yung sinabi ni Presidente na hindi siya magagalit kung yung iba ay hindi boto sa sinabi niya (about term-sharing). Kung hindi niya sana nasabi ‘yun ay tapos na sana ang boksing (in favor of Cong. Cayetano),” said Salceda.

“Mukhang akala ko, knocked-out na ng round 1, yun pala 12-round bout pala to… hay naku! Akala ko, matutulog, gigising at boboto na lang, mukhang hindi pa pala!” he added.

Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte reportedly will host a breakfast meeting for selected congressmen an hour before Monday’s Speakership election and has already reserved the South Lounge of the House of Representatives’ main building.

More than 200 solons reportedly have confirmed to grace the early meal to be hosted by the President Rodrigo Duterte’s eldest son.

Salceda also disclosed that the Hugpong ng Pagbabago-led Duterte Coalition which was spearheaded by the younger Duterte still continues its signature drive in recruiting members even though the Davao City solon has already agreed to become Deputy Speaker for Political Affairs under a presumptive Cayetano Speakership.
