Diokno son-in-law to attend House probe on flood control scam

The son-in-law of Budget Sec. Benjamin Diokno is set to attend Tuesday’s House inquiry in connection with the alleged flood-control scam, House Majority Floor Leader Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. said.
Andaya said Rogelio “Jojo” Sicat Jr. accepted the invitation given by the House committee on rules to shed light over contracts allegedly cornered by his family’s construction firm Aremar Construction Corporation in the government’s flood-control program.
“I heard yung son-in-law ni Sec. Diokno has the guts,” said Andaya.
Sicat, son of Sorsogon Vice-Governor Ester Hamor in her previous relationship, is married to Diokno’s daughter Charlotte Justine Diokno. At present, Vice Governor Hamor is now married to Casiguran, Sorsogon Mayor Dennis Hamor who is also the primary incorporator of Aremar Construction.
Andaya said Sicat already hired a defense team for his upcoming appearance in the rules panel.
Meanwhile, Andaya stressed that Diokno has yet to respond over the separate invitation given to him by his committee.
House Minority Floor Leader Danilo Suarez earlier said he might compel Andaya’s panel to issue a subpoena against Diokno if he insists his executive privilege to evade the inquiry but Camarines Sur lawmaker is not in favor of the Quezon solon’s proposal.
“Kaya nga ayaw namin i-subpoena e dahil magmumukha kaming parang naglalaro ng habulan e. Siguro yung kanyang integridad nalang ang pinanghahawakan namin na sinasabi niya para i-klaro niya yung sarili niya. Yun lang naman eh,” said Andaya.
