Diokno wants face-off with Imee Marcos: Kung gusto mo mag-senador, bakit ayaw mo ako harapin?
Senatorial bet Chel Diokno is eager to have a one-on-one debate with Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.
“I really wanted to debate with Imee Marcos because we have to thresh out so many issues. On the one hand, their camp is saying so many things especially about martial law. About their family, about there was no ill-gotten wealth and all of that. But the records are there, the facts are there and it’s unfair to revise history,” said Diokno in an interview with ANC’s Christian Esguerra.
Diokno is the son of legandary Senator Jose “Pepe” Diokno one of the leading lights of the opposition against former President Ferdinand Marcos, the father of Imee.
But De La Salle University College of Law dean is aware that Marcos would not agree to a face-off not only because she ranked higher than him in senatoriable surveys.
“Sabi niya she’s too busy. But to me I think that’s giving the public the short hand of state. Because the public really deserves to know, may kakayahan ba yang kandidatong yan o hindi?I cannot force her to show up but I think that people are going to raise questions. If she wants to be in the
Senate bakit ayaw niyang humarap?” said Diokno.
“I’m sad to hear this because I was really hoping that we could have exchanged fair ideas if she has something to bring to the table. Then why not show up?” he added.
