Dito ka lang, kailangan kita! Duterte wants Roque to stay, head the soon-to-be merged Office of Spokesperson-PCOO
President Rodrigo Duterte thinks Harry Roque is so perfect as his spokesperson, he wants the abogado to stay in Malacanang and delay his bid for the Senate fro 2019 to 2022.
A Palace source said Duterte had a heart-to-heart talk with Roque who had sought the president’s advice for his senatorial run which so far does not look heartening considering his low standing in the surveys.
The source said Duterte advised Roque to stay and head both the Office of the Spokesperson and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) which he planned to merge under the Office of the Press Secretary, the original set-up before the Aquino administration took over in 2010.
This is the reason why Duterte, after endorsing Roque’s candidacy in previous events, suddenly mocked him in a speech Thursday night and offered him a new job.
“Si Roque gusto mag senador. sabi ko tama ka na, istambay ka. Bigyan kitang bagong trabaho. Hindi ka manalo,” said Duterte,” said Duterte.
But the source said Roque told the President his misgivings about dropping his political ambition and staying on the job.
Roque has been a year in office but the President has not issued an executive order formalizing his post as spokesperson. The source said that unless the President guaranteed that he would sign an EO for his new job, Roque would file for candidacy next week.
