Divorce not the solution to ‘impossible marriages’ – Cayetano
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
NEW CLARK CITY – House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said divorce is not the answer for estranged couples with “impossible marriages.”
“Some believed that divorce is the solution, some like me do not believed that divorce is the solution,” said Cayetano during a press conference in New Clark City.
Cayetano said the state definitely needs to find solution for impossible marriages especially those who are battered partners and those couples who are psychologically incapacitated but he admitted that he prefers an annulment that is accessible to everyone rather than passing a Divorce Law.
The House leader stressed that although he has personal views on the matter, he gave a guarantee that the controversial proposal will be given the much needed attention— full debates and discussions.
“We are not stopping any of the committees from discussing all of these bills. I can tell you my personal stand but pero hindi naman yung personal stand ko lang yung masusunod, di ba?” said Cayetano.
“So let the committee and the plenary debate this,” he added.
