The Philippines can now perform 12,000 tests a day for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), according to National Task Force Against Covid-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon.
To strengthen the country’s capacity for mass testing, four mega swabbing centers are set to open in Metro Manila and Bulacan in the coming days. They will be located in the Philippine Arena, Mall of Asia Arena, Enderun tent, and Palacio de Maynila tent.
The government aims to conduct 30,000 tests a day by the end of May.
“Ang ginagawa natin ngayon ay bini-build up natin ang ating laboratory capacity. Ngayon meron na tayong 12,000 capacity per day. Gusto natin tumaas yan sa 30,000 pag umabot na tayo gn May 30,” said Dizon.
As of May 7, the Department of Health has recorded a total of 10,343 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 685fatalities and 1,618 recoveries.
