Dominguez doesn’t want DOF post – Duterte spokesman
Who can say “no” to presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte? His childhood friend and businessman Sonny Dominguez, that’s who.
In an interview over DZMM Tuesday (May 17), incoming presidential spokesperson and press secretary Sal Panelo bared that Dominguez isn’t keen on accepting the Department of Finance (DOF) secretary post being offered to him by Duterte.
“Mukhang tinatanggihan ni Sonny Dominguez ang offer ni Duterte na maging Finance Secretary,” said Panelo.
Dominguez actually knows what it’s like to be an alter-ego of a president. He served as agriculture and environment secretary under President Cory Aquino from 1986 to 1989.
Earlier, Politiko reported that Dominguez was outgoing Davao City Mayor Duterte’s top choice for executive secretary, which bares the informal title “little president”.
It remains to be seen if Duterte’s longtime pal would still want a position of power in the new administration.
Also rumored to be in the running for the DOF post under the Duterte administration is Lance Gokongwei, son of the wealthy Cebu-based business magnate John Gokongwei.
