Don’t give up! IBP exec urges Carpio: Continue West PH Sea advocacy despite retirement
Even after he retires, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) expressed hope that Supreme Court (SC) Justice Antonio Carpio will continue to fight the country’s claims over the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“We look forward to his continuing contribution and patriotism in moving forward our country’s legal victory in the West Philippine Sea,” said IBP President Domingo Cayosa in a statement on Friday (Oct. 25).
Capio, who will retire this October 26 on his 70th birthday, earlier vowed to oppose Chinese claims over the WPS even after he is no longer with the SC.
“I will miss that but we have a bigger foe, we have China,” he earlier said.
“So I think that will consume my time and I don’t think I will be longing to do other things,” he added.
Carpio was also part of the Philippine legal team which was able to score a victory in 2016 before the international Permanent Court of Arbitration against China concerning the WPS.
