Don’t pretend to be nice: Cayetano to pro-ABS-CBN senators: Wag kayong epal!
Speaker Alan Cayetano has had enough of senators dipping their fingers into the sole business of the Lower House, such as approving the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Corp.
Cayetano gave the senators a piece of his mind in a salty speech sponsoring a bill granting a provisional franchise to ABS-CBN until October this year.
“Allow us to do our jobs. Remember it is always easier to get twenty four people to agree than three hundred. Remember we represent specific constituencies and sectors and that is why the Constitution provides that franchise bills will exclusively emanate from the House,” said Cayetano.
“We want to work with you, to build our nation, but respect our timing and manner of holding our hearings. In other words, let’s all play nice, and not just pretend to be nice,” he added.
On Monday, May 11, at least 13 senators filed a bill granting ABS-CBN a “provisional franchise” to give Congress more time to tackle its application to renew its franchise. ABS-CBN was forced to go off air after the National Telecommunications Commission issued a cease and desist order on May 5 or a day after its franchise expired.
