Dooc rapped for failure to act on insurance claims

Social Security System (SSS) President Emmanuel Dooc has been accused of graft for his failure to compel insurance corporations to pay P1.6 billion in insurance claims when he was still head of the Insurance Commission (IC).

The Steel Corporation of the Philippines (SCP) and the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed the complaint against Dooc before the Office of the Ombudsman.

“It is now doubtful if the Commission indeed is there to protect the insuring public, or in actuality protects the interests of the insurance companies,” read the complaint.

The SCP explained that its insurers refused to pay insurance claims amounting to P1.6 billion following the fires that struck its steel mills in 2008 and 2009.

The complainant pointed out that the IC has yet to resolve SCP’s complaint despite the lapse of the period to resolve the case under the IC Rules of Procedure.
