Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya should expect a “strongly worded letter” from the House committee on Metro Manila development after he again failed to show up in a hearing concerning Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 operations.
“Why is it that Secretary Abaya is present on media interviews and the Senate but not here in the Congress hearings? As the committee has agreed, we will write a strongly worded letter to Abaya to attend the next hearing or he will be subpoenad by the committee,” Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares said.
The poor maintenance of the MRT has caused inconvenience to the thousands of passengers who cram the system daily despite the increase in train fares.
Colmenares said the DOTC should take over the operations and maintenance of the MRT because the current service provider, Autre Porte Technique Global, is “useless.”
“The safety of commuters should not be taken for granted,” the lawmaker stressed.
