The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is planning to build at least two evacuations centers in each province this year.

In a media briefing in Malacañang on Wednesday, DPWH Sec. Mark Villar said over 200 evacuation centers will be completed in 2020.

“In this year’s budget, meron po kaming allocation of two evacuation centers at least per province. So magkakaroon po ng additional to the evacuation centers that are already programmed in the budget,” Villar also said.

“By this year, we have programmed more than 200 evacuation centers that we’re targeting to finish. Madadagdagan pa yan if we get additional budget,” according to him.

Last Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte asked Congress to pass a supplemental budget amounting to P30 billion to help communities affected by the eruption of Taal Volcano in Batangas province.

Duterte likewise urged lawmakers to allocate another P20 billion for the construction of evacuation centers in provinces facing the Pacific Ocean.
