Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III said he was pleased with the Senate approval of the supplemental budget for Dengvaxia victims.
“We’re extremely gratified by the Senate’s action approving the Dengvaxia supplemental budget, which is about P1.161 billion, which the DOH successfully demanded from the Sanofi about three or four months ago and was returned to the Bureau of Treasury but which needs approval by Congress, both the House and the Senate,” Duque said in a briefing in Malacanang on Thursday.
The Senate, voting 18-0, approved on Wednesday on third and final reading the proposed additional P1.161 billion budget intended for the children injected with the Dengvaxia vaccine.
“So finally, we will be able to confidently provide the necessary surveillance, monitoring, treatment, interventions, and hospitalization for whoever among the population, close to 900,000 Dengvaxia vaccinees will need those or such interventions,” the Health chief said.
“So we’re very, very gratified. Thanks to the House and the Senate for their most positive decision to pass and approved this bill,” he added.
