Some 33,000 children of displaced, non-returning, repatriated, or deceased overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the coronavirus crisis will receive a one-time grant of P30,000 cash aid, President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday.

Duterte said the subsidy will be given to a qualified beneficiary “enrolled or is intending to enroll” in state universities and colleges, local universities and colleges, and Commission for Higher Education Development (CHED)-recognized private higher education institutions.

“Ang tulong po sa edukasyon sa mga anak niyo nito is a one-time grant of 30,000 pesos,” the Chief Executive said during his public address late Monday.

“The project will be allotted with the amount of one billion, which will benefit about 33,000 students from OFW families,” he added,

Duterte said the Department of Labor and Employment or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will provide details on the assistance under CHED’s Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education or UniFAST.
